Carolyn McDaniel and Nancy Steele started their Caro Nan purses in 1965. They were created from sturdy New England baskets with handles, lids, latches and featured hand-painted scenes. Their interiors are lined with quilted calico and are hand-signed by the creator. The name of the store that originally sold the bag is often featured on the inside of the lid. This bag was originally sold by “Bobbie Platt Gifts”. The purse features six elephants holding tails in a continuous design surrounding the purse on all four sides. The basketwork shows some definite wear, including a small area of breakage on the front. A lot of the protective felt on the bottom of this bag has worn off. The mustard-colored vinyl trim really makes the painted design pop. These elephants are sure to bring their good luck to you.
